FAREWELL TO MAURIZIO POLLINI, FIRST WINNER OF THE POZZOLI COMPETITION

The great pianist Maurizio Pollini, who passed away on March 23rd, was closely linked to the Ettore Pozzoli Piano Competition.
It was in 1959 that seventeen-year-old Pollini won his first international competition: the first edition of the Pozzoli Competition.
Pollini and the Pozzoli Competition have benefitted from a circumstances that has helped both: with Pollini taking off from there, while the Pozzoli competition, thanks to the prestigious name in the roll of honor, grew up rewarding pianists of the highest level, in the following 60 years of history.
The world of music today loses has lost a great pianist who brought the flag of Italian culture high.
