Evgenny Konnov wins the 31st edition
Evgeny Konnov is the winner of the 31st edition of Ettore Pozzoli International Piano Competition. The Jury decided at the end of the final evening celebrated on Tuesday, October 1st, in the prestigious location of the San Rocco Theatre.
The 27-year-old pianist native of Ukbekistan has shown important artistic qualities and maturity since the preliminary rounds.
In the final, he convinced the jurors (also impressed the audience in the hall, who massively voted for him, making him winning the special award by Casa Ricordi) with a beautiful performance of the Concerto in B flat op. 23 by Tchaikovsky.
Konnov ruled the other two finalists, Andrei Leshkin and Elia Cecino. Both performances of the young contenders (twenty-one years old the Russian and eighteen years old the Italian pianist) were highly appreciated, but were beaten by the more mature Konnov.
Leshkin has opened the evening of the final, by performing the Concerto in B flat op. 23, the same piece that Konnov also played later, while Cecino proposed the Concerto in G major op. 58 by Beethoven. The contestants during the final, were accompanied by the Antonio Vivaldi Orchestra of Morbegno conducted by Lorenzo Passerini.
Elia Cecino, winner of the Pozzolino 2018 (the competition for pianists Under 18 which is proposed every other year compared to the Pozzoli Competition), he received a special support from the public and has been awarded several special prizes: “Angelo e Mons. Giuseppe Biella” prize for the best performance of Ettore Pozzoli’s studies, “Luigi Pontiggia” award to the youngest Italian semifinalist and the special award offered by the Institute of Italian Culture of Budapest to the best Italian ranked.
A special prize was also awarded to Andrei Leshkin: the recognition to the memory of Giulio Confalonieri, reserved to the youngest foreign semifinalist.
A special prize was also awarded to Oleksii Kanke, sponsored by Rotary Se. De. Ca.
“Certainly the best edition of the Pozzoli Competition that I have attended since I follow the event,” said Vincenzo Balzani a juror and member of the Executive Committee. A large audience attended all tests (a lot of attention also received the big screen set up for the occasion in Piazza Risorgimento) and was very involved in the final evening, confirming to have particularly appreciated the artistic quality of the event.
