“Elsa Pozzoli” Competition surrenders to Covid: Edition postponed to 2021
Even the competition for young pianists “Tribute to Elsa Pozzoli” surrenders to the health emergency. The Competition’s Executive Committee in agreement with the City Administration has recently postponed to 2021 the fifth edition of the competition, the first dedicated to Ettore Pozzoli’s daughter (in the first four editions, the competition was called “Il Pozzolino”). The Executive Committee has chosen the new dates: the Competition will take place between 17th and 20th June 2021. The competition notice remains unchanged, whereas the winner of the category D is expected to get as a prize, a recital to be held in the city for the Ettore Pozzoli International Piano Competition that will be in agenda for next autumn.
“It was a painful but necessary decision to postpone the competition – higlights Seregno’s cultural councillor Federica Perelli. – “Tribute to Elsa Pozzoli” is an international competition, with judges and competitors coming from all over the world. With the dramatic uncertainties on mobility between countries, we cannot adequately programme the competition for November. Hence the decision to propose everything for next year. A postponement that we take as an incitement and exhortation to work even more intensely on the project of the piano competition for artists under 18, which from this edition we wanted to dedicate to the figure of Elsa Pozzoli, who had so much influence on the artistic and human path of his father”.
Elsa was the only daughter of Ettore Pozzoli and his wife Gina Gambini. Born in 1903, she had a brief life: she died for a fever at the young age of three. The mournful event marked Ettore Pozzoli indelibly, not only as a man, but also as a musician. His biographers emphasized that after this episode Ettore Pozzoli intensified his activity as teacher and composer with the aim of accompanying young people on the path of learning music. The great love and great sorrow for his daughter Elsa, became extraordinary driving forces of his artistic activity.
The competition “Tribute to Elsa Pozzoli” is reserved to pianists born from 1st January 2003, which will be divided into four age groups. The required program will be modulated according to the belonging category: to all, however, will be required to perform studies or tracks written by Ettore Pozzoli.
The Competition’s history is still new, but already in the winner’s list we can read names that are becoming important on the international scene. Eva Ghevorghian a 17 years old international star, Mattias Antonio Glavinic, 12 years old and fresh winner, absolute first prize, of the International Piano Competition “YOUNG VIRTUOSO” of Zagreb, and Elia Cecino that, few months ago, was one of the finalists of the 31st International Piano Competition Ettore Pozzoli. The aim of this “Tribute to Elsa Pozzoli” competition is to confirm the international relevance of the event and draw the attention on talents who can express themselves in more important contexts.
